The Challenge of Maintaining Old Drains

There are approximately 200 Chapter 4 Drains in Oakland County. These open ditch drains were usually built long ago to alleviate flooding problems and to help farmers drain their fields. Most of them are in disrepair due to the fact that the Drain Code limits assessment for repair.

Outfall Survey / Illicit Discharge
This installment of H2Oakland explains the Phase II Storm Water Compliance Permits that went into effect in 2003. A key component of maintaining compliance with our permit is sampling through the Illicit Detection and Elimination Program or IDEP.
